North Carolina Labor Statistics by County, 1990-2013

Inspired by: Tom Carden's "The Health and Wealth of Nations", found at Gapminder, and Mike Bostock's recreation of it in d3, found here.

This visualization shows average annual wages (x), U3 (headline) unemployment rate (y) and number of employed persons (radius) of all North Carolina counties over the years from 1990 to 2013. Counties are colored by geographic region; hover over them to read their names. Move your mouse over the year to move forward and backwards through time.

Unlike Tom and Mike's original, these data sets don't have any missing years; linear interpolation is only used to determine intermediate values for each frame of the animation. The lookup for the two interpolation values at each frame is accelerated using bisection of sorted arrays per dimension.
